Dear CUSD Board Members, I am a graduate from De Vargas Elementary School, and right now, I am in seventh grade. Once I was in fourth grade, I moved here from Japan, and I hardly knew any English. But, I was able to have an awesome time at De Vargas with the wonderful help of the teachers. All the De Vargas teachers were very friendly and compassionate to all the students, Particularly Mr. Tatman, my fifth grade teacher. He taught me the magnificence of writing and reading, and how working together with classmates as a team is really important. These are things that I never tried before having Mr. Tatman’s class, so I am really thankful to him, and all other staff who took care of us when we were in fifth grade. The after school sports were great, too. The coach always teaches us nicely and respectfully, so we can play the game as a team. Even when we lose, we can feel satisfaction. Our team was not so strong, but I remember that the teammates all had a great time playing, and this after school sports program let me realize that working together as a team is really important. Also, I thought the Special Educational Programs for handicappedd students were amazing. De Vargas is one of the schools that provides extra help to handicapped students. I had contact with those students when I was in fifth grade, and they seemed so excited, so I thought it was a great program that we should do in other schools, and last it forever. So, De Vargas is a school that is exceptionally compassionate, friendly, and inclusive. I think more students should come to De Vargas to learn all the stuff they can’t learn in other CUSD schools, so please think positively about saving De Vargas to let other students have the opportunity to learn in De Vargas. SAVE DE VARGAS!!!
